Title: Why Digital Wellness Is The New BYOD Alanna Harvey

Moderator:

Marianne Harvey

Alanna Harvey is a 27-year old tech entrepreneur who advocates for digital wellness, which is our physical and psychological well-being in a digital world. Scientific evidence has revealed that our blurry relationship with our screens can be dangerous if it’s not properly balanced with time spent offline, where individuals can connect more deeply with one another and get into flow without distractions. Alanna’s startup, Flipd, is a rapidly-growing technology company that’s proving students are particularly interested in spending more time offline, and educators should be supporting this movement. In this workshop, Alanna will reveal some key insights pointing toward this trend, share how Flipd is teaching students to disconnect, and discuss what this means for the next generation of learners. 119

The creative design cycle promotes deep learning, particularly collaboration and critical thinking. This cross-curricular creative design cycle model can be used both in hands-on programs as well as more academic programs. 125
